HARDCORE INC.
This picture deserves it's own page and story.

In June of 1969 I had to go thru Fort Dix New Jersey on my way back to Vietnam after a 30 day leave.
I was put in a "Repo-Depot" with about 400 other guys all awaiting orders for Vietnam. As was the case then,
anyone who had been to Nam sorta gravitated towards each other and it turned out that there were only 8 of us
who were going back. Everyone else in the company was heading over there for the first time.
Since we had all been to Nam before, and were waiting to go back, we all got on the same details.
Mowing grass, picking up paper, etc., etc., etc.. However....since we had all been to Nam before,
we "didn't do details" very well. Once we were put on a pick up the paper detail. You know....the one
where they give you a bag to carry over your shoulder and a stick with a nail in one end to spear the paper with.
We were driven to some remote part of Ft. Dix and told to make our way back to the company area picking up the
paper on our way. We each picked up about 2 pieces of paper then headed straight for the NCO club where we
spent the rest of the day. Another time we were put on a grass cutting detail. We all got in a line and mowed
a path to the NCO club where we spent the rest of the day (see a pattern developing here?). We didn't care
about the details, we just wanted to get back to our outfits.
While all of this was going on, the rest of the guys who were waiting to go to Nam for the first time
started saying "What the hell are you guys doing?" To which we replied "What are they gonna do? Send us to Nam?"
Then someone said "You guys are really hardcore about this aren't you?" Someone else said "Yeah, they're Hardcore Inc!",
and the name stuck for the rest of the time that we were in Fort Dix.

information about any of the others in the picture, would you please e-mail me with the information.
I would really like to get in touch with these guys once again, to send them a copy of the picture
and see how they are doing.
