These two photos were taken at the guard shack at the gate to the Co A compound (Camp Beaumont). We employed Korean guards from a civilian security guard service. They were excellent guards, took their jobs seriously and always presented themseves in a "spit and polish" manner.
The photo on the left is one of our Korean Language linguists (whose name will appear here when either a. somebody tells me or b. I happen to remember). He appears to be skilled in cross-species communication as well. Nobody seems to remember who his friend was. The photo on the right shows the quonset huts the enlisted personnel slept in until the new concrete block EM barracks (shown in the photo of the entire compound) was completed in 1962. At that time, these quonsets were moved from the locations shown above to the position along the south fence where they appear in the photo of the compound.
The photo above was taken at a party in the club sometime in the first half of 1961. The man standing with his shirt unbuttoned is Tito Valdez. Seated next to him (wearing civilian clothes) is Milton Wardrop. Seated in the foreground (wearing glasses and looking down) is your webmaster (me) Gary Clark. Others will be named if and when we can remember any of them.
The photo on the left above is the A Co First Sgt. performing ASA PT in which he is keeping his right arm in shape by doing some not so heavy lifting. The photo on the right is SP/4 Craig of San Angelo, Texas (055/05G). These photos were taken in the field during tactical support exercises.
All three photos above were taken during a training exercise at Nightmare Range, located north of the 38th parallel in the Tonduchon area. The upper-left picture shows the 05G crew. The bottom picture is a beer breakfast. The man in the middle opening his breakfast is Ed Clough. The man to the left of Ed is named Lawson.
