1 Constituted = Giving an official name, or number and name to an organization (to start
a new unit that had never existed before).
2 Activated = Bringing into physical existence by assignment of personnel.
3 Relocated = Moving and unit and all assets and beginning operations at a new location.
(NOTE: This unit was mobile and did not have a ‘home base’).
4 Redesignated = Changing the designation of an organization (change the name).
5 The (J) indicates Japan Theater.
6 Designated = In this case, Designated means the same as Constituted.
7 Reassignment of personnel, equipment, and/or mission to another unit does not mean the
lineage of the unit goes with it. In this case, the 1 RSM does not have a lineal link to the
6921 RSM. In historic terms, the 1 RSM has a functional link to the 6921 RSM, which
is not (and will not be) reflected in the lineage and honors.
8 Inactivated = Withdrawing all personnel from a constituted organization and placing the
organization on the inactive list.
9 Disbanded = Removing an inactive organization from the inactive Air Force list. The
unit name is no longer valid and cannot legally be used again unless reconstituted.
10 Reconstituted = Returning a disbanded organization to the inactive Air Force list,
making it available for activation.
11 Consolidated = Combining two (or more) organizations, merging their lineage into a
single line, thereby forming a single organization. Organizations with concurrent or
overlapping periods of activation cannot be consolidated.
12 Irumagawa, Japan was the location of Johnson Army Air Base from 1946 until it was
renamed Johnson Air Base in (at the latest) 1950 [1950 date based on 1 RSM, SO 155,
dated 2 Jul 1950].
