USASA is Alive, Well and Better than ever!!!!
You wonderful ASAers

Happy Y2K you wonderful people and best wishes for a great year. As I'm sure you've all noticed, the New Year has come and gone and absolutely nothing spectacular has happened. No people with two heads or tails, etc. We have noticed a few more aches and pains and that "Senior Moments" occur more frequently these days but that sort of thing goes along with the territory, as we're sure you've noticed. So on with the Important stuff!!

We are shocked to learn that INSCOM lost five of its best troops last year. They were killed while flying a mission in support of the U. S. Drug Abatement program. Their plane crashed into a mountain in Columbia, S.A. INSCOM will conduct a Memorial Day Service in their behalf on Thursday, 25 May 2000 at 1000 hours in front of INSOCOM Headquarters at Ft. Belvoir, VA. All ASAers are invited to attend. POC is Barbara Carter, Protocol Office, INSCOM 8825 Beulah St., Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-5243, Phone: (703) 706-1278; E-mail to: bacough@vulcan.belvoir.army.mil.

SPRING BUFFET LUNCHEON

While you all were trying to keep warm, our hostesses, Alice and Martha went to the Ft. Myer 0fficer’s Club and charmed the manager into providing us with a terrific buffet luncheon and you can believe this, at only $18.00 which is almost $2.00 less than last time. Just look at this:

New England Clam Chowder
Green Salad
Rotisserie Chicken, Seafood Jambalaya, Braised Short Ribs
Vegetables, Rice, Whipped Potatoes
Apple Pie
Coffee and Tea!!!

The catch: we had to guarantee an attendance of 130. So--it goes without saying that we NEED you to attend or we'll be in "deep stuff". The date is 28 April, starting at 1100 hours. So pick up your pens, fill out the attached flyer, and send it in ASAP. We are looking forward to seeing your smiling faces!

Finally, we do a certain amount of long range planning too. So, please be advised that we have reserved the 29th of September 2000 for the Fall Luncheon at the Fort Myer Club starting at 11 AM. Put it on your calendar.

MORE ASA NEWS

We have just learned that Doc Legere passed away. Until recently, he published the "After Action Report". The latest edition is a great saga: "The Story of the Murals at the Rothwesten Officers' Open Mess". As of this writing, we do not know if Mrs. Legere will carry on his work. Mrs. Legere may be contacted at:

51 Warren St.
Fitchburg, MA 01420
Phone: (978) 342-7293

Bob Zikowitz publishes a very interesting and informative newsletter for the 2nd Signal Service Bn. Alumni group. It is obvious that much time and effort is spent on research of the info contained therein. The 2nd also holds reunions periodically. Bob is the POC and he can be reached at 7605 Gaylord Dr., Annandale, Va. 22003-5430. Phone: (703) 256-6920,

ASA PICNIC

At least it is now in its early planning stages. We expect that all-pertinent information needed for your planning will be made available by not later than the After Action report to the ASA Spring 2000 Luncheon. Great fun. If you are already going to be in travel status and happen to be in the neighborhood on or about 5 August - plan to drop in. Just keep our reservation sheet, which will be included in the next issue of the newsletter and submit them as soon as convenient to your plans. All ASAers are welcome and looked for.
