for anyone who served in Hq. Co, 321st ASA BN:
Hq. & Hq. Co. 321st USASA BN was located at Camp Red Cloud in the city of Uijongbu, in Kyongi Province. Camp Red Cloud is still there but Uijongbu has changed a lot. Today, that smelly little town we remember has become a thriving city and a key manufacturing location for Korean cars. And, if you don't remember how to find Uijongbu, you can find it on the map. Click here to see map.
The 321st USASA Bn was headquartered at Camp Red Cloud because it was the tactical ASA unit in direct support of I Corps, also headquartered at Camp Red Cloud. The 321st Bn was a TDA unit that was created in 1957 as a replacement for the 301st ASA Bn. The 301st Bn was a TOE unit under the 501st ASA Group. It was inactivated in 1957 along with the 501st Group and all the other TOE units subordinate to the 501st. This was an economy measure required by a worldwide manpower reduction ordered in that year. When the TOE units were inactivated, their operational functions, assets and personnel were taken over and continued in the same locations by newly created TDA units having different unit designations. The 321st USASA Bn existed only from mid-1957 until it was discontinued on 1 July 1964, another victim of defense budget reductions. (Note the term "discontinued" vs. "inactivated," TDA units were not considered permanant, only temporary. Inactivated implies possible future reactivation and this applied only to TOE units.)
The 321st Bn had two operating companies, Co. A and Co. B, each of which has its own page on this website. At the time of its inactivation, the 301st Bn also had a Co A and Co B subordinate to it. The two companies under 321st Bn were the TDA replacements for the TOE companies A and B that were also inactivated along with all TOE units in the 501st ASA Group.
Hq. & Hq. Co. 321st USASA BN was one of many ASA sites operating in Korea under 508th Group during this period. The webmaster was assigned to A Co. and, unfortunately, doesn't have enough information about Hq. & Hq. Co. to include any more than what you see here, as yet. Submissions by ANYONE who served in Hq. & Hq. Co. 321st USASA BN from 1957 - 1967 are eagerly sought. please e-mail me.
